We survived another night of the deep freeze, and thank goodness (knock on wood) the furnace is still chugging away. It was an interesting night of waking up and waiting for the furnace to kick on and then waiting for the fan to turn off so I could hear that there was still a drip going in the sink…..that’s a lot of stress when this girl should be sleeping.
I did get a little bit of spring in the mail today. 🙂 One of the days that I was sick last week and I was couch bound, I requested a seed catalog from a bunch of places. One of the places sent me a 50% off coupon so I thought what the heck, and today I have seeds.
There isn’t anything I can do with them now, but I can plan. I grabbed a couple of extra to send the eye doctor with the green thumb that supplied me with half of my plants last year. He barely uses our lab anymore, but when he does call he always reminds me that he will give me more plants this year. I was very proud of myself when he said that my garden last year proved that I was a gardener….it’s the little things. 🙂
Last night when I skipped yoga because it was too cold, I played in the kitchen. It was 1 part experiment and 2 parts raising the temperature in the house so the furnace could take a breather.
My first experiment was adding chopped caramels to a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe and sprinkling them with sea salt. They actually came out pretty yummy. My cousin sent me a box of Malleys chocolate this Christmas, Hawaiian Red Sea Salt Caramels, it was the best chocolate ever. I went to the website and even inquired by email, but alas they are a seasonal treat. That was the motivation behind this experiment.
I tossed a granny smith in my chicken bacon soup, which was interesting. I’m not sure if I will do that again or not. I need to sample more of it to make that decision. I did manage to make a big mess!
I am hoping that after tonights below 0 temps, I will be able to sleep again. Wherever you are I hope you are warm and toasty….Zia
