The Bare Necessities

This turned out to be another relaxing and calm weekend. I don’t know how long I can keep this up but I am going to try my darndest to make it keep happening.

Today the girl and I did a little bit of running around. We moseyed so we were out about two hours. We came home and started putting Christmas away. Only this year because my Hogmanay party is next weekend I am leaving the tree up but…..we took down the garland and all of the ornaments. I did pick up some plaid ribbon that was ridiculously cheap to make some bows for the tree. This is a new look for me but I don’t think it looks so bad? It’s festive for the party and that’s what I was going for, plus the cleanup will be easy peasy.

Speaking of Hogmanay…..I reached out to the girl who made the Grinch glasses I found at a local fundraising event about making one of my gifts for Hogmanay. She did remember me and will make them in time for the party next Sunday. I am super excited!! Now…she is new at this and I personally don’t care that it’s not perfectly centered as some people might. I’m sure the girls won’t even notice and if they do, they won’t care. This is the one she did today….

I think they will be a big hit! I need to start thinking about the menu and soon. I pulled some things out of the cabinet that I couldn’t bear to part with and I think I will use them for the party.

Then I moved on to project food. I went through every cabinet and threw out every expired piece of processed food and gathered the rest to give away. I am just going to take it to work tomorrow. I hated throwing away all of the pasta but I store it in glass jars and it’s a little hard to give away opened food. This is my give away lot…

It’s not as much as I expected?  I did have the big bottle of Hershey’s syrup on the table but the girl snatched it up and said “you don’t even drink chocolate milk and I am keeping this.” That was really the only thing she grabbed. I left her the few brownie mixes that were left and told her she would have to melt some butter when she makes it because there will never be vegetable oil in the house again.  I ended up keeping the Basmati rice. First it was opened and second I can use it to make a rice water toner which I have been meaning to try. It’s certainly not a dangerously tempting food to keep around.

Yesterday I met my dad and his wife for lunch….no kids with me which equals no buffer and I survived. It was fine and it was brief so it all worked out. There was a brief theological debate while his wife was in the restroom…he will never win that debate. Thankfully it was at the end of our lunch, he had to rush home to be a sheep…I mean get ready for church.

I left there and ran to Lowes to get some potting soil. I had a couple of plants that needed repotted desperately. The potting soil is over by the plants and I rescued a few more off of the clearance cart. I will post pictures another day. The peace lily in the bathroom looks so much happier now that she can spread her roots. I even have a cute little jade plant to put at my desk at work. I will take a picture of him tomorrow.

After I played in the dirt and cleaned my mess yesterday I sat down with the girl. Her friend had just left and she started playing a video game so I picked up my Kindle and started reading book two in a series I had started on my way to Arizona. I rarely give myself the pleasure of reading a book in one sitting but I had to know. I had to know Molly’s story, I am still haunted by it today. I have the next book loaded and ready so hopefully I can start it on Tuesday.

I also discovered a horror on Friday night after coming home from the neighbors…..I did what I always do when I go somewhere after work…I freshen my makeup up. Because my bags are still healing from Christmas Eve and my food allergy, I struggled a bit. When I came home and looked in the mirror this is what I saw….

So if you see me and you think to yourself “she looks tired,” I assure you I am not. I just cannot use any concealer right now and I will choose to look tired over looking like I have the Thing’s eyes….no offense Thing. I immediately took off my makeup when I came home and said words I have never uttered before “it looks better without makeup?” No worries…I still have my armor on, just not around my allergic bags…..Zia
