Today was a beautiful day!  I wish I wouldn’t have hit the snooze button so many times this morning but I made it where I needed to be by 9am.  The first hour was one of my volunteer hours, at 10am I was off to my first lecture. It was very informative and I took away some useful information.

I had some time to kill so I wandered around the book fair checking some things out. I stopped at the registration desk to verify the time of my next block of volunteer hours. I was talking to the girl when the author who was looking over my work walked in…talk about timing!  The place we were supposed to meet was a busier place than anticipated so we found our own spot. This was such a positive meeting! He gave me positive feedback and we discussed the writing process before we got sidetracked into books. We read so many of the same books and watch so many of the same shows. I don’t watch that many shows so that one shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. It was the most inspirational part of my day! He teaches at the university when the Boy and Girl attend and we are now Facebook friends. It’s nice to know if I have a writing emergency I have someone to contact. I am grateful for this contact and his time and input.

I also met a very nice woman who was a published poet and was giving lectures and had a reading. We even had lunch together where I met some of the other poets that were speaking. I’m not even sure how that happened? We had a nice conversation so it was a good thing. After lunch I had a block of volunteer time and one last lecture. I stopped back into the book fair and purchased the Author’s first book and the Poet’s book. I remembered in the nick of time to get them signed. I had a few duh moments today and this was one of them.

There was another poet I met and later learned that she was from the county where my grandparents were married. My mom was born one county over when they moved from Harlan to Bell County. There’s that genealogy thing again….We talked about it briefly and then I excused myself when I realized there was someone else waiting to talk to her about actual poetry.

It was a great day full of new people and inspiration. I learned a lot and left super inspired! Then I had to do real life things like Sam’s Club and the grocery store before heading home. Once I came home and sat down…I was pretty much done.

Big K had some tomatoes in her garden for me so I did text her once I was home. She even picked the tomatoes for me… I left and told the Girl I would be right back…almost three hours later…I came home. I had a nice visit and was able to enjoy a perfect bonfire. I miss bonfires so much….

Creative inspiration, writing talks, friends, and a bonfire all in one day? It doesn’t get much better than that!   Zia
