The Overlooked

Today was a quiet, relaxing, and yet productive day. There was the brief disturbance where the Boy was in the bathroom with the stomach bug this morning. He still went to his dad’s today and part of me is glad. Take those germs out of here! I burned a lot of sage today so hopefully the air is purified.

Once they were gone and I started putting their things in their room, the cleaning was much easier once their stuff was out of my way. The Girl is really bad at leaving her stuff laying around. My cleaning pattern was very ADHD today, but in a good way.

I finally checked “organize Christmas wrap” off of my list. I had three different TJ Maxx tote bags of wrap and wrapping accessories, as well as a skinny garbage can that holds the rolls of wrap. I brought them all up into the living room and organized the lot of them. If you give me a gift in a gift bag, you better believe I am reusing that bag as well as the tissue paper. I folded a lot of tissue paper today. This is the first project I started while catching up on Grace and Frankie. Season six is out and I have been in the middle of season 4 since it came out a very long time ago. I’m somewhere in season 5 now.

When I was putting the organized wrap in its proper place in the basement I glanced down at the TJ Maxx tote of canned goods. Next thing you know I took everything that was over a year upstairs, emptied the jars, and ran them through the dishwasher. This left room for the current canned goods to go on the shelf. This project was a long time coming. It distracted me from putting all the new clearance Christmas ribbon in my ribbon tote. Putting the ribbon away is the last thing I have to do in regards to anything related to Christmas.

When the jars are completely dry I will reorganize that space. I think I am going to start putting the jars face down in the crates? There were too many big dried up spiders in the bottom of some of the jars the last time I canned. I would like to avoid that from happening again. Maybe I shouldn’t use the crates? Somebody gave me jars in them and that’s always what I used them for? The don’t really fit on the shelf but it keeps the jars semi organized.

The next thing on my mind is curtains. The curtains in the living room are a dark gray. They used to belong to SB and she gave them to me when I moved in. She had high ceilings in her old house and these curtains are super long. Now that I have the serger I thought I could cut them and serge the ends. The Girl has them pinned up and while she did a great job keeping them even, it looks ridiculous.Plus she has them pinned too short, we can’t agree on the length.

When I came home from stamp club last night the house looked all dark, like no one was home. This is because the curtains are dark and the Girl keeps them closed all the time because of the glare on the television. Then I remembered the curtains Big K started and gave me because…I can’t remember why she didn’t finish or use them? It would brighten things up. They are lined and ready to go, all I would have to do is sew a rod pocket in them. A straight line is something I should be able to handle. There is extra unlined fabric in the bag too, (would you believe another TJ Maxx tote…they are so handy) I could make pillows if I wanted to and then I wouldn’t have to cut up SB’s curtains. If the lighter curtains don’t work out…then I will have no choice. I also have to move the curtain rods on at least one of the windows. The kid who lived here before me gave it a nice try but had no idea what he was doing. I never fixed it because I didn’t want to make more holes but if I am sewing things…then I will rehang them correctly.

Stamp club was fun last night. SB and I were really off our game but we laughed and laughed. You would have thought we had something other than water with our dinner. Yesterday was like that at work too. The family members of cataract patients bonded in the waiting area…it was so loud. They were laughing and having a good ole time, it was cracking me up. It was good to experience laughter throughout the day. I don’t hear it enough.

These are the cards we made last night…

I apologize that the pictures are all caddywhompus …I don’t know why I didn’t straighten them? This was right before we left and I was rushing but still…I should have made the effort.

I think I am going to work on my vision board next. It’s been on my list for 19 days straight and since it’s just me tonight, maybe I can finally check it off of my to do list. I made one last January and it did seem to help. It’s also the perfect activity on this Winter weather advisory kind of day…..Zia
