Do you remember way back on January 30th when I had that dream where a voice whispered Hestia? Well, I haven’t forgotten. It took me a while to gather information since most of it had to come through search Ohio to get to my library. Then it took a couple more weeks for me to actually sit down and go through it.
There is a series of books called Goddess Girls for middle school readers that was actually available from my local library. Where were these books when I was a fourth or fifth grader? I am reading Hestia the Invisible at the moment. https://www.simonandschuster.com/series/Goddess-Girls
The only thing I knew before the dream was that Hestia was Goddess of the Hearth. I didn’t know much about Cronus or Rhea or their first born child who was the oldest and youngest of the Olympians. Sure there aren’t many statues or stories about her but she resided in every home and community in her day. She was a part of daily family life, keeping the home fires burning. The neglect of Hestia, the hearth, and the home is about to get a second chance….
Something good has got to come from this coronavirus or it was all for naught. Ohio was just issued a “stay at home order” effective tomorrow at 11:59pm. It doesn’t really effect me too much since I work for a doctor…as far as I know. We had a meeting last week and I think we will take turns…with a schedule of course and have a skeleton crew, only seeing urgent or emergent patients.
Friday I was forcing hand sanitizer upon entry and taking temperatures of anyone who walked through the door. I mentioned this to my brother and he lost it. He thinks wearing a mask will protect me…I tried explaining how that actually works but he doesn’t get it. I never realized what a germaphobe he is…I will put on gloves and disinfect surfaces at work but I won’t use hand sanitizer. I will use my Onguard “oily” spray or soap and water. Hand sanitizer is right up there with overuse of antibiotics which is part of the problem. I’ll just keep putting oregano oil on the bottom of my feet than you very much. Does it help? I sure hope so…I guess we will find out.
I talked to a few patients who I knew had small children on Friday….hopefully their contacts made it to the post office on Friday, I’m not sure if the labs will be open after Monday? The parents out there are struggling with the homeschooling. Thankfully in this situation both parents are working from home and dealing with this as a unit. Some of the other situations put it more on the mom to work from home and teach.
What I see is the beginning of families working together, playing together, eating together, becoming a family again. In one case they were washing baseboards and scrubbing walls…the homeschooling version of detention. Now my Hestia dream is starting to make more sense….Zia
