What Do I Do First?

I have been trying to plan my staycation activities over the last couple of days and boy is it hard! One day I am spending with KB so that leaves four days to play. One of the things I have set my mind to is soap making. I have always wanted to do it but I let the lye scare me away. I have a front porch with an outlet and a crockpot so I am 100% going to give that a go in two weeks. There are some other bath and body recipes I want to try and let’s not forget makeup…It might be a Mad Concoctions kind of week off.

I reserved a couple of books on soap making from the library but they aren’t in yet. I was able to physically go into the library today, pick out my own books and have a conversation with one of my favorite librarians. This was the highlight of my week! I of course overloaded my arms with books before I headed out the door. None were to “read”…I have two of those going already. These were for recipes or inspiration (upcycling).  I even grabbed a new one about charcuterie boards and that was because it was exquisitely photographed….it was too pretty to pass up and maybe I might even take a swing at one.

One day a couple of weeks ago, one of my neighbors sent me a picture of a Luna moth and asked me if I knew what it was? It was recently deceased and after I told her what it was, I asked her to save it for me.  I always knew I would be making a birthday card for KW with it…I just didn’t know how. I wasn’t even sure how to mount it and I was hoping spray adhesive was the right choice. This is the card I made with the Luna moth….

Part of it’s wing was gone when I acquired it but I don’t think it’s something that stands out? Hopefully once I package it in a clear envelope it will be preserved and this bug’s beauty will be around for awhile.

Monday was a crazy day as always and we were there late. I did get a call that my mats were in from Hobby Lobby so I stopped after work. They are the best price in town but the over cuts….I would have never sent out work like that. I tend to be a little OCD when it’s my reputation on the line. I guess the folks at Hobby Lobby don’t care that much? I have been changing a few things up here and there. I love this frame….love it….and while I really like the dark fairy I framed with the suede mats that I also love…it’s just too dark now. So I purchased another Jessica Galbreth print (I miss her fairies but I like this angel) to go into the frame. The frame looks so different with a brighter mat. I am happy with how it came out (minus the over cuts but hey…I don’t own a mat cutter) and it does lighten things up.

The crystal grid I made Sunday is the opposite of lightning things up. Honestly? I have never made a crystal grid like this before…it even feels different. But hey…that’s what I was drawn to build. Only time will tell…

Last night we had yoga after work and this week there was a bigger turn out. I don’t think I mentioned that last week I grabbed a skort instead of my shorts….talk about embarrassing!!! I grabbed appropriate clothing this week and it was another great class! I hope my coworkers stick with it…I don’t think some of them realize how lucky we are to have yoga teacher that comes to us…and a great one to boot!! The class last night was Yin and when my first alarm went off this morning…I hit snooze and then stretched. My back didn’t feel like the muscles were being gripped by a greedy meiser…they were loose and it felt strange but good and then I remembered, “ah…Yin.” (insert 10 smiley face emojis)

My dreams were pretty intense last night too although I couldn’t quite grasp them and usually I remember everything? It was a perfect night last night, the frogs and crickets were singing and the air was cool…I can’t think of a better combination for peaceful sleep. I am just happy to have the windows open and fresh air circulating through the house.

That is what has been going on here…nothing too interesting? Maybe the weekend will bring more adventures?

Oh…before I forget…do you remember that artisan festival that SB and I go to every year? They are making you wear a mask outside…I’m out. The way I look at…they are saving me money. It’s a mandate…I have to wear it in stores…but outside…I’ll pass.  I’ll leave it at that…there are a few who know where I am coming from….Zia

I won’t wear mask outside. Things are being taken too far! I’m now wearing a face shield when I have to …. my medical exemption is not being honored (illegal and unconstitutional) that I am unable to wear a mask so MY choice of face covering is a shield. Soap …. I have a recipe that does not call for lye and I’ve been making my soap bars for a long time. Your moth card is exquisite!! Wow! Also admired how you arranged your gems and crystals. I used to be into them but not right now. I’ve learned not to throw them out, however, for I tend to flow in “cycles”. You have a great day today, Zia. Much love to you! xo

I flow in cycles too! It makes it hard to purge craft supplies for that very reason. I would love to hear more about your soap recipe… I am still going to try the lye cold press, at least once but I am always looking for ways to keep things pure. I have often thought of trying a face shield but wasn’t sure about it 🤷🏻‍♀️ It looks like it might be easier to breathe. I agree with it being unconstitutional and yes, it has gone way to far. Hopefully it won’t be for too much longer. Hang in there my friend 😘

Zia. I saw your comment yesterday but I had a very busy day so here I am today. A face shield I give 2 thumbs up! If these businesses will not abide by executive orders and give those of us exemptions from masks due to medical conditions, I AM choosing a face shield. I’m done butting my head against a brick wall dealing with unreasonable people who think what is good for the goose is not good for the gander. Oh really? NO!

Now for the soap. I get my soap bases here

and this is my recipe which is so so simple.

2 pounds soap base cut into small pieces.
Put soap base pieces in double boiler to melt. Add 1 tsp Shea butter to what is melting in double boiler. Stir in. Add either a fragrance oil, or essential oil if you want a fragrance. That’s it. Of course you need soap molds.
My hubby ONLY uses my bar soaps. He used to have some really bad rashes that no doctor could clear up. My soap cleared the rashes …. that and adjusting his diet. I’m washing my hands all the time due to handling my cats and their care and using this soap my hands do not dry out.

Now for current times … back to that ole story. We all must do what we can in order to play the game until finally the dust settles. The ONLY way out of this mess is to get herd immunity and to open the economy back up. Dispense with the masks and social distancing and most important of all, these people must realize it is their own fear that is imprisoning them for when you are in fear you cannot think critically. But aha! That is what the “dark” wants, isn’t it? Hope you have a great day today!! xo

Amy thank you for your recipe!!! Brambleberry is one of places I have been looking. I will definitely give your recipe a go! I would like to try the from scratch lye soap at least once though. I am looking forward to this adventure. Of course with the current times… I have to take what I can get in the fun department.
Herd immunity scares the heck out of me! I don’t want the vaccine so hopefully there’s a loop hole in there somewhere?
Hang in there my friend… better days are ahead😘
