A Heck of a Week!

I don’t even know where to begin….the beginning of the week was a little rough as all days are after a week off. Things eventually calmed down and I’m a bit better than caught up. I felt like I accomplished a lot at work last week but that’s just boring stuff.

Tuesday we lost Eddie Van Halen. That was a rough one…such a huge loss to the world. I didn’t see that one coming. Poor Wolfie and Valerie…

Thursday my day started early…like 1:30am early. That was the first time the boy went to the bathroom. He’s not very quiet so he wakes me up every single time. It was in the 4 o’clock hour that he added vocals to the sounds. He had it coming out both ends. I still think it was food poisoning. That’s what comes from 9:30 doordash from Chik Fil A. It smelled like death and I had to get ready for work in there! I lit matches, burned sage, and bay leaves to try and clean the air. It’s hard to be sympathetic when you’re trying to get ready for work and keep getting kicked out of the bathroom. Needless to say, I was a little late to work that day.

Friday was book club, we ended up at Perkins again. I didn’t love the book but you’ll have that sometimes. On my way home from book club the Girl called me in a panic…there was a mouse in the house!! She chickened out when she had the chance to end it. When I got home it had scurried off to safety.

It was 4:30am Saturday morning when I knew the cat was playing with the mouse. I grabbed the dustpan….my choice for mouse killing and waited. I was sitting on my bed, dustpan in hand and was watching the cat all the while, looking for the mouse. I leaned over the bed and watched as the cat tossed the mouse against my bed like it was a basketball on the wall. Hell no…. When I jumped off of the bed the cat carried the mouse into the kitchen and let him down so he could chase him and then caught him once more. He trotted off to towards my bedroom again which was a big no in my book! I entered my bedroom through the other door and that’s when the cat dropped the stunned mouse. I didn’t waste the opportunity and whacked him….he still stirred so I whacked him again. I didn’t want to get blood on the carpet so it was tricky. Normally with a dustpan you can scoop and toss after the kill but it was different with carpet involved. I did get it outside…finally.

Sleep didn’t come easy afterwards….the cat howled at the backdoor for at least twenty minutes. I took his toy away and I’m not sorry about that!! I eventually fell back asleep only to be awoken by a text at 8:30am. Big K was giving me a bed and I needed to get up. I will post a picture after I paint the headboard. It might be a few years old but it was barely used. I have never had a pillow top mattress before and it’s softer than I am used to so it’s too early to tell if it improves my sleep.

I thought I would have time for a quick nap to make up for the mouse event but my neighbor sent me a text and asked if I wanted to go for a walk in the woods. Of course I said yes…I have been trying to get there all week but it never happened. I was hoping to capture a picture of one of the owls that live there but that wasn’t meant to be. There were lots of faces in the trees and this is one of my favorite tree spirits….Doesn’t it look like he is hugging the tree? Everything about this tree is special so I always seek it out when I visit these woods. The last picture I took was the best. It doesn’t happen often but every once in a while what I see with my eyes matches what the camera captures….For me it’s all about the light. I have no idea what I am doing with my camera but angles and light are where I spend my time.

We had neighborhood drama that I just found out about. I told the neighbors with the pool and they didn’t even know. Apparently the retired cop pays more attention than I gave him credit for….the bad neighbor who always has the parties, beats up his girlfriend, and throws random girls off his front porch onto their face left his house. According to the retired cop someone broke into his house and beat the crap out of him and he isn’t coming back. There is more to this story and if I cared I would be nosy and try and find out….I don’t really care, I’m just glad he and his riffraff are gone.

That has been my week and since there is another full moon/blue moon brewing…it should continue to be a wild ride….Zia

  1. Losing Eddie Van Halen was a tough one. Such skill he had. Great photo of the leaves and the pathway. Have a great week.

Yes, very tough. He had skill and character which made it fun to watch, plus the fact that he put his heart and soul into every note. My first concert was Van Halen, well technically Van Hagar but we all know it was about Eddie…he created the sound. Thanks for liking my picture and I hope you have a great week!

  2. So grateful for my husband. We’ve had a few mice somehow get into the house since we’ve been living here the past 5 years. My kitties are all gone now and there won’t be anymore since my husband is allergic (my kitties pre-dated him so he dealt with it while they were still with us). My husband bought an electric mouse trap for when the mice make their presence known. I think it was about $15. They seem to love bacon grease so when we get one he’ll bait the trap with bacon grease, the trap zaps them and keeps them contained inside the box. The little light will flash if there’s one in there. My husband will take it outside and empty the trap and dispose of the deceased rodent. With the electric trap I don’t have to see it at all and there’s no mess or noise.

Thanks for the information Jeannie! I have never heard of this kind of trap but I will look into it if there is another incident….I am hoping there isn’t another incident. I have never heard the tip about bacon grease either, I guess it’s a good thing I have a jar under the kitchen sink. I appreciate you taking the time to share your wisdom with me! I hope you have a great day, Zia
