Slushy Sunday

At least I’m hoping for a slushy, melty Sunday…it will be better than the sheet of ice my road has been for the last two days. I’m tired of complaining about that, every single Winter of my life. The boy had a hard time pulling on to our street last night, that slight incline will get you every time. It’s supposed to be above freezing today so I am hoping it melts. I have a couple places to go today so it would be nice if the roads were passable.

The first thing I saw this morning after my feet hit the floor was a party at my bird feeders, I was super excited! Bluebirds, woodpeckers, sparrows, and many others. Here is one of the pictures I took..

I love my backyard! You never know what you are going to see.

I managed to get a lot of stuff done yesterday, it’s amazing what you can get done when your kids aren’t home. Yes, they are in their twenties and I am still saying those words.

I finally started that herb class that I signed up for a couple weeks ago. I took twenty pages of notes on just the first class. Do you know how long it’s been since I took notes like that? Me neither but trust me…it’s been a long time!  I learned a lot and I’m lucky I was able to sign up at half price. I forgot about hand cramps, I kept writing until I couldn’t and then took a break and did something off of my to do list. It worked rather well.

I am also taking The Herbal Academy’s perfumery course which is both fun and informative. I can’t wait to try some of the recipes! I have to wait for my bottle of Everclear to really get started. Who drinks that stuff anyway? I can’t buy it in Ohio so we’ll just leave it at that I guess.

In one of the lessons there was an interview with a perfumer who did her herbal training under Rosemary Gladstar. She gave me so many ideas…seriously…I can’t wait to dig in! I don’t need a kitchen, I need a laboratory! Okay…maybe that’s a tad excessive…maybe?

I already have two jars of calendula oil brewing, and one jar of calendula tincture. I’ll be making a jar of Agua de Florida for tomorrow’s full moon and as soon as I get the Everclear I will be adding more jars. Maybe I just need an extra room? I definitely need more room.

The seed catalogs are starting to come already which has me dreaming of a garden. I can’t have one here and while I have managed to do a mediocre job of a container garden…it’s not the same. Plus the chipmunks are out of control! There’s part of me that still holds that homesteading dream. It’s too much for one person…right? That’s what I keep telling myself. I still see bees and chickens in my future, hopefully while I’m still young enough to enjoy them.

Holy moly! as I sit here typing a plow finally went down my street. The storm more or less ended 48 hours ago…I just can’t with this town. Oh well,at least the roads will be less slushy when the Girl and I head out in a couple hours. I hope you have a great Sunday…Zia

PS I had a wild dream Christmas night. I saw dolphins playing in the water and I wanted to get a closer look. Someone was driving me through flooded streets which turned into a petting zoo. Once we got around to the other side I got out with my camera and two of the dolphins came right up to the edge and then they weren’t dolphins anymore. One had the head of a lion, and one a jaguar or leopard. Does that make them sea lions? I have no idea but I started this year dreaming of a black cat and have had recurring cat dreams all year. Lately though…the cats have been much bigger.
