Yesterday, after work, I drove out to the farm where I buy local meat. Whenever I make this trek, I drive right by an eagle nest. It’s hit or miss….usually a miss but it doesn’t stop me from making a drive by. It was cold and starting to snow so I debated the whole way there and most of the way back. When I was getting closer, I thought I saw something so I said “why not?” and turned down the road.
When I was pulling off to the side of the road, I saw one fly back and then land on a pine tree. There was one by the nest too but it had it’s tail feathers towards me. I got out of the car and noticed a lady with a huge lens walking under the nest. She didn’t see the other one land, she was too close. I pointed it out and we both got busy with our camera. She was hoping for a photo of the eagles “in the act”, someone else captured that a couple weeks ago. I was just excited that they were at the nest when I was there! I didn’t even mind the cold and I certainly wasn’t dressed appropriately for taking pictures in the elements.I love the versatility of my camera and the fact that I can carry it in my purse at all times. I love how I can get some pretty good shots with my zoom and I’ve done fairly well with macro shots as well. It’s only when I am at this nest surrounded by huge lenses and tripods that I sometimes wish for a better camera. Sometimes! I never feel the need to “keep up with the Joneses” any other time only when it comes to these magnificent birds. I get over it pretty quickly and I will never let it stop me from trying to take a shot.
I was so excited and happy that I took a chance and stopped. I couldn’t wait to get home and get the pictures off of my camera and onto my phone. I had two different grocery stores I had to stop at first. I needed vegis for a vegi tray I was taking to work today and I needed to buy gift cards for my nephews. There is a significant price difference on produce so it was worth making two stops. Taking pictures and chopping vegetables pretty much sums up my day yesterday.
The kids came home from their dad’s on Tuesday so no more peace and quiet. The dog and the cat are extra happy that the Girl is home. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they’re home…I just have to get used to the noise again….Zia
